Worcester Rock School is re-launching at the end of this month.

Open to young people aged eight to 18, professional tutors will put children into bands and get them ready for an end of term performance, with classes beginning on Saturday September 25 at Bishop Perowne High School, Merrimans Hill Road.

The school is part of Dragon Music which counts Bullet For My Valentine drummer, Jason Bowld, as a patron.

Previously known as Worcester School of Rock and Performance, it was founded by Brian Hoggard in 2004 and then run by Jez Cole from 2009 for over 10 years before control was handed back to Mr Hoggard in March 2020.

Mr Hoggard said: “It feels great to finally be able to re-launch Worcester Rock School. It's been such a long time since it last ran, and I know both staff and students are really keen to get back to making music again.”

Mr Cole passed away last November and the first end of term show, on December 11, will be dedicated to him

Mr Hoggard added: “In early 2020 Jez knew that, for health reasons, he should step away from running it and so we had a discussion about me running it again which is what has come to pass.

“It's really important that we remember Jez at the end of term show as many of the students who will be returning never had the chance to say goodbye to him.

“I think it's important for Jez's family as well to know that he's remembered and that the rock school is in good hands.”

Rock School is a ‘parent free zone’ where musicians can develop their own unique style with sessions taking place on Saturdays between 10:30am and 1:30pm.

Each term consists of 10 sessions, culminating in the end of term performance.

The school is open to all styles and instruments, including drummers, guitarists, vocalists and more and there will be separate junior and senior classes.

Students must bring their own equipment and a basic knowledge of their instrument is required.

Courses cost £135 for juniors and £195 for seniors.
