A McDonald's restaurant has had to close after the outbreak of a massive fire at an industrial unit in Kidderminster.

McDonald's on Weaver's Wharf has shut early because of the fire in Park Street which broke out today at 3pm.

Plumes of smoke are still visible as firefighters tackle what they have called a "significant fire".

Homes near to the fire are being evacuated and road closures are in place at Park Street with Park Lane and Castle Street as well as Bewdley Road by the hospital.

A McDonald's staff member said the Lower Mill Street branch would be closing for the night.

However, she did not know if the 24-hour fast food reastaurant would be reopening in the morning.

People have been asked to stay away from the area surrounding the fire while people living nearby have been advised to close their doors.

Firefighters are still at the scene along with West Midlands Ambulance Service who sent an ambulance, three paramedic officers and Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) paramedics.

The Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham with a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic on board was also sent and landed near the canal.
