Worcester City Council has insisted it is regularly patrolling a problem parking area in St John's, which has been rife with antisocial parking over the past week.

On Tuesday, the Worcester News published a picture sent in by an angry shopper, who had spotted a blue Jaguar parked on double yellows, covering most of the pavement just along from Subway on the B4485.

The unhappy pedestrian told of how an elderly gentleman on a mobility scooter had struggled to fit past just moments before he took the snap.

And we have since received more pictures from disgruntled residents who have noticed plenty of similar instances.

One image shows three different cars parked on double yellow lines at one time, with two of them partially blocking the pavement.

Another displays a blue Suzuki covering almost all the footpath, with a lamppost creating a further barrier for elderly pedestrians on mobility scooters that may wish to pass.

The fed-up owner of local business Barbertown, who has a shop situated on the problem road, labelled the parking situation as "a joke".

Yet despite the recurrence of "inappropriate" stoppers, the Worcester City Council insists it has been regularly active in the area.

A spokesman told the Worcester News: "Our Civil Enforcement Officers are patrolling this area regularly and have issued several penalty notices to cars and other vehicles that are inappropriately parked."

Drivers caught parking on double yellows can receive fines of £70, which are reduced to £35 if paid within 14 days.

Motorists caught parking on the pavement by the police can also be charged with "unnecessary obstruction of any part of the highway", although this is less common.

According to Confused.com, 47 per cent of people park on the path because they didn’t want to obstruct the road.

Additionally, 53 per cent said they parked on the pavement because the road was too narrow.
