THE number of new coronavirus cases recorded in the county in the last week has fallen according to the latest figures.

A total of 1,697 new cases were recorded in Worcestershire in the week up to September 9 – a drop of four per cent compared to the week before.

The number of new cases has also fallen from the recent peak of 1,958 in the week up to September 6.

A total of 245 cases were recorded in Worcester in the week up to September 9 – a fall of five per cent compared to the week before.

New cases also fell in Malvern Hills – dropping by nine per cent in the week to 158 – but the infection rate increased in Wychavon, which includes Evesham, Pershore and Droitwich, by just over eight per cent to 316 new cases.

In the north of the county, where cases have been higher in recent weeks, the number of new cases fell in Bromsgrove by almost a quarter in a week.

A total of 324 cases were recorded in Bromsgrove in the week up to September 9 – a fall of 24 per cent.

The number of new cases in Redditch increased by four per cent in a week to 285 and six per cent in Wyre Forest to 369 which was the highest among the county’s six districts.
