BRIGHT yellow speed enforcement cameras have begun popping up along the A449.

Already the work to install the cameras on the southbound carriageway has been completed.

Roadworks are continuing to place the cameras on the northbound carriageway between Ombersley and Hartlebury.

Drivers' average speed will be recorded by the cameras to catch those breaking the 50mph on the road.

The system is due to go live at the end of September although mobile speed cameras are still catching speeding drivers during this time.

If prosecuted for speeding, drivers could face a minimum penalty of a £100 fine and three penalty points.

Worcester News:

They could be disqualified from driving if they build up 12 or more penalty points within a period of three years.

The project is a partnership between West Mercia Police, Worcestershire County Council and speed technology firm Jenoptik and has been funded by West Mercia Police and the Police Crime Commissioner Road Safety fund.

Superintendent Gareth Morgan said: "There are many families that unfortunately know far too well the devastating consequences that speeding and collisions can lead to.

"Reducing the number of people killed or seriously injured on our roads is our priority and reducing the speed that people travel is a key part of this."
