COSTA coffee has attempted to allay fears about traffic problems when it opens up a new drive through.

Plans to build a drive through Costa coffee shop at Four Pools Retail Park, Evesham, were met with anger from residents.

Complaints to Wychavon District Council said there was already another Costa coffee shop just three roundabouts away and the town already boasts three of the chain's cafes.

There are also fears the drive through at Four Pools Retail Park, Four Pools Lane, will cause traffic and blight the area with litter.

But a Costa Coffee spokesperson has reassured people that it would be putting in traffic management measures in place.

“We can confirm that a planning application has been submitted for a Costa Coffee Drive-Thru store at Four Pools Retail Park, Evesham and we will ensure that measures are put in place that support the management of traffic visiting the store if the application is successful.

"To date, no formal complaints have been received about the number of Costa Coffee stores in the local area.

"At Costa Coffee we work closely with local planning authorities and communities to open new stores for the benefit of the local area, by creating new jobs where possible and providing an opportunity for coffee lovers to sit-in or pick-up their favourite Costa coffee."

Plans were submitted to Wychavon District Council in August to install roof letters, signs, a height barrier and the words "Great Coffee Starts Here" on a bin store at the former Frankie and Benny's restaurant.

Consultation on the planning application 21/01970/ADV is due to end on Friday (September 24).
