CASES of people from Worcester who have been caught on trains without a valid ticket have been heard in the magistrates court.

It is an offence to enter a train for the purpose of travelling without having a valid ticket entitling the passenger to travel.

Five people from across Worcester have been up in court and fined in the last month for not having a ticket on Great Western Railway.

Here who has been in court:

Emily Cline

The 25-year-old was fined £220 in her absence after an being caught without a valid ticket at Pershore on March 16.

Cline, from Southfield Street, Worcester, was fined for 'not being in a designated compulsory ticket area, entered a train for the purpose of travelling without having with you a valid ticket entitling you to travel'.

The case was proved in absenceand Cline was also ordered to pay compensation of £5.40, a victim surcharge of £34 as well as costs of £180.

In total, Worcester Magistrates Court said she must pay £439.40.

Richard Wayland

Wayland, of Ombersley Road, Worcester, was fined in his absence for boarding a train in non compulsory ticket area without a valid ticket.

The offence dates back to March 25 at Pershore where it was said he 'entered a train for the purpose of travelling without having with you a valid ticket entitling you to travel'.

He was fined £220 at Worcester Magistrates Court on September 10 as well as told to pay compensation of £8.80, victim surcharge of £34 and costs of £180.

In total, Wayland must pay £442.80.

Christopher Bingley

The 41-year-old of Lowesmoor, Worcester, has also been fined for boarding a train in non compulsory ticket area without a valid ticket.

The offence took place on April 8 at Evesham and was proved in absence at Worcester Magistrates Court on September 10.

Bingley was fined £220, ordered to pay compensation of £10.10, a victim surcharge of £34 and costs of £180.

Bingley must pay £444.10 in total.

Luke Powell

Powell, of Warmstry Court, Quay Street, boarded a train on March 16 at Malvern Link without having a valid ticket.

The verdict was proved in absence at Worcestershire Magistrates Court on September 10.

The 29-year-old was fined £220.

He was ordered to pay compensation of £6.10, a victim surcharge of £34 and costs of £180.

Lucy Smith

Smith, of Almoners Court, Willis Place, Worcester, was fined £220 at Worcester Magistrates Court.

The case was proved in her absence after she was found to have boarded a train without a ticket in Evesham on April 30.

Worcester Magistrates Court also ordered her to pay compensation of £8.80, a victim surcharge of £34 and costs of £180.

Smith must pay a total of £442.80.
