MAJOR work to build a new state-of-the-art hockey centre in the city is nearing completion.

The multi-million-pound hockey centre is being built on the Old Porcelain Ground off Droitwich Road in Worcester as a new home for Worcester Hockey Club.

The facility will boast two state-of-the-art international standard artificial pitches and a new pavillion to serve dozens of the club’s teams, University of Worcester students, schools and the hundreds of youngsters that train every week.

Work on the hockey pitches has continued throughout September with the pavilion work expected to be finished next month.

The new centre is set to cost around £2.5 million and was due to open September 2020 but was hit with delays due to the Covid pandemic.

The club has raised just under £310,000 so far towards its £400,000 target with fundraising continuing ahead of the December deadline.
