THE latest part of a huge ongoing plan to build thousands of homes around the edge of Worcester has been put forward.

Major developer Bloor Homes has revealed the first phase of its major proposal for Worcester which will eventually see up to 1,400 homes built between Oldbury Road and Martley Road to the west of the city.

The developer has submitted a reserved matters application to Malvern Hills District Council which looks at a small share of the overall development and, if approved, would allow work to start on building up to 216 homes on the land.

Permission to build the homes has already been given in principle but the developer’s latest ‘reserved matters’ application concerns the layout and the design of the homes.

The application by Bloor Homes follows the submission last month of similar plans by developers Redrow and Taylor Wimpey for other parts of the land to the west of Dines Green and St John’s in Worcester billed as the ‘West of Worcester Urban Extension’.

Bloor Homes also put forward a plan for its 310-home second phase in August and a decision is still to be made on all of the proposals.

The ‘extension’ of the city would see more than 2,300 homes built west of Dines Green and St John’s.

Bloor Homes will be building up to 1,400 homes with Taylor Wimpey building 483 homes and Redrow building 439 homes.

Once completed, the huge new development could also include a new community centre, primary school, GP surgery and care home as well as shops, pubs and restaurants and sports and leisure facilities.

It is the third application to be submitted by Bloor Homes in the area in recent months after the developer put forward plans for 150 homes on land known as Grove Farm off Bromyard Road in Worcester.

Worcester City Council approved another Bloor Homes plan for 175 homes on neighbouring land to the east of Oak View Way off Bromyard Road in September 2018 following Malvern Hills District Council's decision to grant permission in principle for 150 homes a few months earlier.
