DEAR Editor – Every three or four years a taxi driver has to renew his or her licence – part of that process is a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

If a teacher changes schools, again a DBS check is initiated just like in many other professions.

A comprehensive, screening, vetting and background check is carried out prior to a police officer taking the oath.

In light of the awful Sarah Everard murder by a serving police officer, is it time that regular, periodic enhanced DBS checks are introduced into police forces as standard?
