A MAN died and another suffered serious injuries following a series of stabbings near Tewkesbury.

The two men, and a woman, were attacked in Walton Cardiff with a number of members of the public intervening.

Police received multiple calls about a man with a knife injuring people in the Snowdonia Road and Arlington Road area just after 5.20pm yesterday (October 5) .

One man suffered serious injuries and despite the efforts of paramedics and others who helped he died at the scene. His next of kin has been made aware, police have said.

Gloucestershire police say a man in his 50s has been arrested and remains in police custody. Investigating officers are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident.

The second man who suffered serious stab wounds was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol where he remains in a stable condition.

And the woman, who suffered a wound to her leg, was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital for treatment.

Detective Inspector Ben Lavender, from the Brunel Major Crime Investigation Team, said: "Our investigation is in the early stages and we're working hard to establish what has happened.

"We're in the process of speaking to numerous witnesses and those who helped at the scene of this serious incident.

"Anyone with information or anyone who has mobile phone footage relating to the incident and who hasn't already spoken to police in the area is asked to please contact us."

Police cordons were put in place at the housing estate, which is just off junction nine of the M5 to the east of Tewkesbury, where the stabbings took place and police remained at the scene last night.
