A MAN has been jailed following a dramatic manhunt in Malvern.

Officers descended on Malvern searching for 34 year-old Jamie Cornes in a search involving police dogs, foot patrols and a helicopter.

Now Cornes, who also goes by the name Jamie Lewis, has been jailed.

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: "Jamie Cornes, aged 34, from Malvern, has been jailed for assault by battery following an incident on September 19.

"He appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court on October 1 and was sentenced to three months in prison."

We previously reported how officers in Malvern were appealing to find Cornes, who had been wanted on recall to prison.

September 20 saw police helicopters and foot patrols in Malvern late at night as officers tried to find Lewis, who is wanted after breaching his license conditions.

Residents reported hearing a police helicopter overhead in Malvern with a large police presence searching playing fields near Pickersleigh Road and Harbinger Avenue.

One resident said officers were searching Sling Lane and Hayslan Avenue playing fields.

They also said police dogs were involved.

At the time, the police asked the public for help finding Cornes, with a spokesman saying: "We are asking the public to please contact us if they have seen 34-year-old Jamie Lewis from Worcester, or know where he is.

"We believe he has links to Malvern and Worcester and is wanted on recall to prison after breaching the terms of his license.

"If you have any information or know where Jamie Lewis is please do not approach him directly, and contact us on 999 immediately.
