A 55-year-old racing driver is making his mark having only gotten into the sport two years ago.

Brenden Haffner, from Pershore, has always wanted to be a racing driver but it was only when he was 53 that his dream finally became reality.

Now, ‘The Haf’ has enjoyed great success and boasts better stats than Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton.

Asked about the secret to his success, Haffner said: “I remain calm and confident in a very intense high-pressure environment which can sometimes get the better of others.

“Attention to detail in car preparation and a deep analysis of lap times both on track and in the simulator mean I can deliver the very best result on race day.”

Haffner’s motorsport journey began in 2019 when he entered the Ginetta Want2Race competition.

Competing alongside 500 other want-to-be racing drivers, most much younger than himself, Haffner completed several rounds of intense racing to eventually be crowned the winner.

This victory saw him qualify for his first season of competitive motor racing, in the Ginetta G40 GRDC.

Haffner showed that age is but a number by securing eight podiums from his first 12 races whilst also recording no DNF’s (did not finish) in his debut season.

He finished the season in third place, an impressive feat considering the experience of those around him.

This year Haffner has continued to star, claiming nine podiums from 15 races in the Ginetta G40 Cup amateur class.

The competition see’s ‘The Haf’ and his rivals compete at some of the country’s most iconic circuits such as Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Thruxton and Donnington.

In his first two seasons Haffner has a podium success rate of 62.96 per cent, a figure that bests even seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton.

Haffner is now on the lookout for sponsorship to continue his racing journey.
