A 32-year-old man from Worcester has been fined by the court after racially abusing a police officer.

James Calder has been ordered to pay a total of £330 after being found guilty by magistrates at Worcester Justice Centre on Thursday, October 7.

The bench heard that Calder had verbally harassed the officer by using racially and religiously aggravated insults during an incident on Saturday, August 14 this year.

Calder, of Rodborough Drive, Worcester, pleaded guilty to the offence and was ordered to pay £100 in compensation to the officer, as well as an additional £95 to fund victim services.

He will also have to fork out a further £135 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

All three of the fines will be paid in £20 instalments which are due to start next month.

Magistrates also ordered that Calder must carry out 100 hours of unpaid community service work over the next year.
