WORK to improve cycling and walking links near Pershore will leave drivers facing road closures and diversions.

The county council is working in the area around Wyre Road and the new Pershore Link Road, with the former to be closed all week from October 25 to 29.

This closure will allow work to be carried out on the new cycle and footway at the junction of Wyre Road and Station Road.

The closure will also allow works to take place where roadworks are needed outside of what can be done under temporary lights.

A diversion will be in place and access to frontages and businesses will be via this diversion.

The delays, the council say, will make a "huge difference" to commuters when finished.

Cllr Alan Amos, county cabinet member for highways, said: "These works are very important for the area and it’s great to see the progress that’s being made.

"These improvements, along with other works that have taken place as part of the wider scheme, will make a huge difference to improve journey time reliability for people travelling by car, as well as offering enhanced areas for people to walk and cycle.

"The works here are a key part of the Council’s commitment to reducing congestion on the roads and improving walking and cycling routes throughout the county."

The work in Wyre Road is progressing, with the most recent activity being the removal of vegetation from the site to prepare it for the main body of work.

In addition, work is underway on the new Pershore Northern Link Road.

Piles have been sunk into bedrock and the new columns have now been installed north and south of the rail track for the new railway bridge.

The majority of the drainage has been installed and foundations laid for the eight-metre high retention wall to the south.

These works are part of the wider Pershore Infrastructure Improvements Scheme, which aims to reduce congestion, improve traffic links and enhance cycling and walking routes, in and around the Pershore area.
