A FOOTBALL-carrying man is being sought after being suspected in a burglary which saw cash and credit cards stolen in Worcester.

CCTV video of the man has been shared widely on social media following the burglary in Albert Road off Wyld's Lane on Saturday morning (October 16).

Sailor Iftakhar Ahmed, the brother of the victim who asked to remain anonymous, is appealing for the public's help to find the man who was in the area at the time.

He told the Worcester News: "My sister went out shopping and saw this man playing with a football in the street.

"The neighbours said they saw someone jump over the wall and broke in through the front door.

"Two handbags and £2,000 in cash, which was in a box, were stolen.

"Two credit cards were also stolen from her. Contactless payments (of around £30) were made at the Tescos in St Peter's and the Commandery petrol station in Bath Road.

"As soon as my sister realised she put a stop on the cards."

Neighbours yesterday said they had seen police in the road, investigating the burglary on Monday morning.

One neighbour added: "I am surprised a burglary has happened here, we don't usually have burglaries here.

"Albert Road is the proverbial leafy quiet street, where you could leave your door open."

After a spate of burglaries last month, that time in Hallow and Wichenford, police put out a warning for residents there to be vigilant.

Among the advice to residents is to always keep front, patio, and back doors closed and locked when you are in the house or in the garden, or when leaving a property, as police say leaving them open makes "homes an easy target for thieves".

The paper asked West Mercia Police for the latest on their investigation into the break-in, but police did not respond before our deadline.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
