A girl has been taken to hospital after being hit by the driver of a car in Kempsey.

Police attended the incident, which happened at around 8.15am this morning near Kempsey Village Hall, after they received reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian.

The girl was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital with "non-life changing injuries".

A spokesman for the West Mercia Police said: "Around 8.15am today (Tuesday October 19) officers received a report of a collision between a car and a pedestrian on the A38 near Kempsey Village Hall.

"Officers and West Midlands Ambulance Service attended the scene.

"A girl was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital with non-life changing injuries.

"No other injuries were reported."

A spokesman for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a collision between a car and pedestrian on Main Road, near to Kempsey Village Hall at 8.13am, we sent one ambulance and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car to the scene.

"On arrival we discovered one patient, a teenage girl, who was the pedestrian.

"She was treated for a potentially serious, but non life-changing, injury before being taken to Worcester Royal Hospital."

An eyewitness that was travelling past the scene said that there was "loads of police" around when she drove past. 

She had also been told that the injured girl was "a secondary school child waiting for the bus", and that the girl had "broken her arm" during the collision. 

Motorists faced around 15 minutes of delays this morning as traffic backed up due to the collision.
