MORE tributes have been paid to a popular former teacher at a Malvern school after the announcement of his death.

Mark Ranasinghe was a teacher at The Chase school in the 1980s and 1990s before retirement.

Born in Sri Lanka in 1938, before moving to England in his 20s, Mr Ranasinghe taught mathematics at the school for many years.

After we reported on the 83-year-old's death hundreds took to social media to pay tribute and share their memories.

Rebecca Jane Wintrip said: "Fantastic teacher, his family should be very proud. Sending them love, he is in our thoughts. Actually made learning fun."

Jay Henton said: "The world has lost a lovely person and amazing teacher. RIP sir.

"You’ve left so many people with fond memories."

Clare Low said: "RIP sir. You were highly respected throughout our time at school, a great man."

Jack Millard said: "Definitely a memorable teacher. Patience of a saint and caring teacher, always felt he had time for you. Rest in peace sir."

Dan Shrew Austin said: "A true gentleman, inspirational and fair, with a natural ability to build confidence and make that which is difficult seem achievable."

Bethên Anne Jones said: "Rest in peace to a wonderful gentleman, who made everyone's school experience that much better, Mr Ranasinghe you will be greatly missed."

Gill S Thompson added: "A wonderful teacher and person. RIP sir."

David Fawbert, who was former headmaster of Chase School when Mr Ranasinghe was teaching, previously paid tribute saying: "The memory of Mark Ranasinghe is a treasured one and he was very well liked by the children he taught, those in his form groups, and much respected in the staffroom, with endless good humour, supportive words and a ready smile.

"I can still see the twinkle in his eye."

Mr Ranasinghe was married for more than 50 years to Margaret before her death last year.

The couple, who lived in Ledbury for more than 40 years, had two children, Jude and Aaron, and three grandchildren, Amy, Luke and Philippa. Mr Ranasinghe was also a devoted father-in-law to Maria.

The family have now announced his funeral service will take place at Hereford Crematorium on Wednesday, November 3, at 2.15 pm.
