An elderly woman was taken to hospital with 'serious injuries' after being trapped under a car door.

The woman, who is in her 70s, was hit by the door and then became trapped beneath it.

Two fire crews had to free her from under the car in Langland Avenue off Madresfield Road, Malvern.

The crews from Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service used 'low-pressure air bags' to raise the vehicle.

She was given treatment at the scene before being taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for further care. 

The emergency services were unable to confirm how she became stuck under the vehicle, however, they did confirm that it wasn't a road traffic collision that caused the incident. 

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "We were called to a road off Madresfield Road, Malvern at 12.45pm yesterday (Sunday).

"An ambulance and paramedic officer attended. Crews arrived to find an elderly woman who had sustained a serious injury.

"She was given treatment on scene before being conveyed to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for further care."

A spokesman for Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, said: "Two Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews - one each from Malvern and Worcester - were called at 1:12 on 24 October to release a female casualty in her 70s who was trapped beneath an open car door.

"Low pressure airbags were used to raise the vehicle with the casualty handed over to the care of the ambulance service (log 4476).

"West Mercia Police (log 294) were also in attendance. The incident was marked as pending closure at 13:51."

A spokesman for the West Mercia Police said: "We were called to Langland Avenue in Malvern at 12.45pm on Sunday 24 October after a woman was struck by a car door and became trapped under the door.

"She was taken to hospital for treatment."
