IT was a record breaking weekend for vaccinations with more than 700 people queuing to receive a covid booster or flu vaccination.

Among them included 40 people who were having their first dose of the vaccine during the event on Saturday which has been hailed as an incredible success.

The grey weather did not put people off as long queues formed outside the Horizon Hub in Midland Road on Saturday.

It was the most vaccines the PCN-led outreach clinics in Worcester have ever delivered in a single day.

David McDowell, patient quality manager at Worcester City PCN: “We were blown away by the enthusiasm of patients who attended this week’s outreach event at the Horizon Hub in Worcester—the fifth in a series of fantastic clinics we’ve held at Worcester Community Trust venues during October.

"With over 700 vaccinations delivered in a single day, it was a record-breaking event for Worcester—and proof of what we can achieve when we all work together.

“We’re grateful to the NHS staff and volunteers who worked tirelessly on site throughout the day, the city council and their volunteers who spread the word among local residents in the run-up to the event, and the Community Trust for offering up their spaces across the city throughout October—as well as, of course, the local residents who came down on the day.

"Almost a year into the vaccination programme, it’s fantastic to still be breaking records—and the encouragement and support of our patients really does keep us going, so thank you to the residents of Worcester for coming out and getting vaccinated with us.”

There was a concerted effort to publicise the vaccination event amid rising covid numbers and with winter on the way.

Council volunteers went door-to-door to encourage people to come along while shuttle buses were running from other hubs across the city.

Cllr James Stanley, chair of Worcester City Council’s Communities Committee, said: “Saturday’s vaccine clinic at the Horizon Hub was a great success with around 700 people being jabbed – the highest number yet at a pop-up clinic in the city.

"I would like to thank everyone who made this an important contribution to Worcester’s fight against Covid – the NHS staff, Worcester Community Trust who provided the menu, the City Council workers and volunteers who helped run it, and the many city residents who queued patiently to get their jabs.”
