A pair of keen cyclists will be spending the day in a Worcester brewery on Saturday, but sampling some of the locally sourced IPA won't be on the agenda.

Military veteran Lee Cox, aged 52 from Worcester, will be embarking on a gruelling eight-hour bikeathon along with his wife Mandy in aid of Scotty's Little Soldiers, a charity for bereaved British forces children.

The pair will be peddling on stationary bikes at The Arch Rivals Micro Pub & Brewery under their team name Scotty's Riders, a charity affiliated group of cyclists formed by Mr Cox, consisting of a mix of five military veterans who served together, and their friends and partners from across the country.

"We've got the bikes set up on a turbo and we'll be peddling away while people donate hopefully," Mr Cox said.

"They'll also be a raffle on with various raffle prizes, tickets are already on sale down at The Arch Rivals.

"We've got various auction prizes that we can auction off as well, but that all depends on how many people we get down there!

"Mike Davis who owns The Arch Rivals has been a great supporter for us and does a lot for the charity.

"So, he's got a few of his normal crowd coming down, but hopefully we'll get a few extra people as well."

Mr Cox said that the event on Saturday will also be used to promote their plans for next year when Scotty's Riders will be cycling all the way from Ypres in Belgium to Worcester - roughly a 260-mile journey.

And they're not planning to stop there, either, with further long-haul challenges planned for 2023 and 2024.

"It's only this last year that Scotty's Little Soldiers has allowed us to use the name Scotty's Riders, so we're now more of a recognised outfit.

"We've got our own cycling gear from Scimitar Sports, and we're working closely Francourt Events over in France.

"Through that we're looking at rides for 2023 and 2024.

"2023 is for the Rugby World Cup memorial, and in 2024 we've been invited over for the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, so we're going to ride for that as well."

Some of the raffle prizes on offer on Saturday include a remote-control Ferrari car, Axe throwing for two at Axe Junkies and a West Bromwich Albian photo personally signed by Bryan Robson.

Scotty's Riders eight-hour bikeathon will take place at The Arch Rivals Micro Pub & Brewery on Saturday, October 30 from 12-8pm.
