DEAR Editor – In today`s Worcester News (November 10) there is a fulsome report on the proposed move by Worcester Theatres from their current (and long-time) home at the Swan Theatre to the soon-to-be regenerated Scala Theatre.
Cllr Marc Bayliss was understandably excited at this move and how it would “...also increase footfall to the north of the city centre and create many new jobs in the creative, construction, hospitality and retail sectors”.
All fine, but would someone please outline what the future holds for the about to be redundant and empty Swan Theatre?
This is a purpose-built theatre funded by Worcester citizens through the support of the SAMA (the Society for the
Advancement of Music and Arts) and must still have a long potential life ahead.
But the city cannot claim an enrichment of the lives of local people if the abandoned premises look forlorn and wasted.
Dr Malcolm Nixon
Worcester
