DEAR Editor – For the last two weeks, we have learnt at Cop-26 about the perils facing the planet.

The extraction of natural resources and the loss of agricultural land will mean higher temperatures and food shortages. But some people in Worcestershire are doing their best to make things worse.

In recent months we have had a series of planning applications to build large housing estates in country villages on greenfield sites, far from employment or public transport. In my own village of Martley, a subsidiary of an Irish investment bank has applied to cram 85 houses on best agricultural land, resulting in an additional 100,000 car journeys a year.

The road to hell is paved with decisions like these.
