A 'disgusted' Malvern family have been left battling damp, black mould and rotting floorboards for almost a year.

Irene Horrigan, 53, suffers with asthma and has said she's been getting through an inhaler every 'three or four days' as the mould has caused her health to plummet.

She told of how worms can often be seen coming through the floor of their living room, which has been rendered uninhabitable.

The problems have been so bad, she's also had to increase the amount of medication she's taking to manage her depression, and has often been found 'sobbing' by her husband.

Platform Housing has said it hopes to provide a date "as soon as possible" for the repairs.

Mrs Horrigan, who lives at the property on St Kitts Close, Malvern along with her husband and son, said: "I'm just disgusted with it, how can anyone be expected to live like this?

"The house is a tip, I'm too embarrassed to have any of my family round.

"Christmas is coming and we're still having to live and eat in our bedroom, what are we supposed to do?

"If they knew it was going to take this long then we should have been rehoused somewhere until the work was done.

"We've pleaded with them and they just don't care, you just get fobbed off and ignored.

"It is just disgusting, we shouldn't have to live like this."

Mrs Horrigan first reported the damp around 8-months ago, when shortly after fitting £700 worth of new laminate flooring she'd noticed it had begun to sink.

She was advised to strip the flooring back by Platform Housing.

Following months of constant complaints and two visits from inspectors, a carpenter was finally called out to the house on Tuesday, November 9.

However, he said he was only there to 'take pictures' of the damp, and a new date was given for a half-an-hour slot in March 2022.

Mrs Horrigan says she 'broke down into tears' during the visit.

She says the damage is a result of the housing association failing to address an ongoing issue with damp that has stretched back nine years.

Poor drainage at the rear of the property has caused the back door to regularly warp and become stuck.

However, she says Platform Housing has sent someone out around 'six or seven' times to shave the door rather than replace it.

Mrs Horrigan says that since the Worcester News contacted Platform Housing, she has received a call to say the work could be carried out as early as this weekend.

They reportedly blamed the delay on an 'administrative error'.

Marc Mayall, Director of Operations at Platform Housing Group, said: "We are currently in contact with Mr and Mrs Horrigan following a visit to their home on the 9th November; unfortunately the issues could not be resolved at this visit.

"The work required involves a replacement back door and we are working with our suppliers to expedite delivery of this as soon as possible.

"We will Keep Mr and Mrs Horrigan updated on progress and hope to provide a date as soon as possible for these works."
