THERE’S fresh new look at the Colwall Park Hotel these days, as the result of major refurbishment work comes to fruition.

The current owners of the hotel, based at the foot of the Malvern Hills, have had the business since 2015.

It opened its doors for the first time in 1904, originally built to accommodate visitors to the racecourse. It was also well used by the local community – many people learning to swim in the pool formerly in the garden – and was also home for world-famous artist for almost 15 years after the war.

General manager Matt Homans said: “Whether it is a romantic getaway or a walking break, within these stylish surroundings, Colwall Park ensures you experience everything from award-winning cuisine with mouth-wateringly good food, to a cosy bar with log fires.

“Reopening the hotel after Covid we managed to plan a wedding to take place at the hotel. Due to restriction it was looking like the wedding would be postponed again. However we managed to work with the bride and replan her wedding.

“We got permission from the local council, organised marquees etc to deliver her dream day. I am very proud of the team we have working at the hotel.

“Over the last eight months they have pulled together and delivered outstanding customer service and great food. Just by looking at the comments on Tripadvisor you can see how happy our guests have been.

“We are currently refurbishing the bedrooms, and work is due to be finished by the end of January. We are looking forward to having our tepee installed in the garden, which will hopefully be open from March, while there are also works in store early next year on the restaurant.”

Colwall Park prides itself on the fact it is a dog-friendly country hotel – so dog-friendly that staff were once asked to arrange a birthday cake for a guest dog during their stay!

The bedrooms revamp project has been undertaken by designer Dominique Robertson, who has over 20 years’ experience in visual merchandising and interior design.

She said: “I began the project by researching the history and age of the hotel and the area. It was originally built in 1904 to accommodate the visitors to the horse racetrack and the building has so much character, it was important to celebrate that.”

Dominique enlisted the help of Caroline Gardiner, a local Colwall designer, who makes cushions and other soft furnishings. Caroline helped to introduce well-crafted cushions into the bedrooms at Colwall Park, using vintage William Morris fabric that had been salvaged from a 1920s home.
