JINGLING tills during Christmas late night shopping will hopefully boost the city's shops after last year's trading was plagued by lockdowns amid the pandemic.

The city's MP has urged people to go out and support their high street favourite retailers as late night Christmas shopping launched on Thursday.

A number of the city centre's big retailers, independents and cafes will stay open later for shoppers.

It is also hoped the extended hours will have a knock on effect for the city's pubs and restaurants which have also faced a difficult 18 months because of the covid pandemic.

A mixture of shops will be opening late at Crowngate Shopping Centre including Primark, Cardzone, Boots, The Works, New Look and Bonmarche.

MP Robin Walker said: "I'm very happy to support late night shopping and encourage people to make the most of it and support the amazing local businesses we have.

"I totally support it and I think we have got some fantastic independent businesses in Worcester and late night shopping is a really great idea in the run up to Christmas.

"It's important people support them rather than only shopping on Amazon.

"It's great to see businesses working together and is definitely something I welcome and would encourage people to go out and use those shops and do their Christmas shopping.

"It has been a really tough couple of years for the high street and we want as many of those independent businesses to bounce back. If people value them people need to go out and use them - it's really important.

"I want to make sure we have a thriving high street for years to come.

"I have already been buying presents from some of our shops and I will definitely be getting out and about doing more Christmas shopping keeping to as local as possible."
