A BAFTA winning actor dropped into a city centre coffee shop to grab some cake yesterday afternoon (Sunday).

Charlie Cooper, star of BBC mockumentary This Country, enjoyed the treat at Steam Coffee Shop in Friar Street.

A post from excited staff members on the café's Facebook page read: "UHHH… WHAT? No way did Charlie Cooper just visit Steam and grabbed some of our cakes?!

"As huge fans of This Country, we are feeling very starstruck and overwhelmed right now.

"Thank you so much for popping in and paying us a visit, Charlie! It was an absolute pleasure to finally meet you and you’ve officially made our entire year."

Born in Cirencester, Cooper is best known for playing Lee 'Kurtan' Mucklowe in BBC Three's smash hit series This Country, which he co-wrote with his sister Daisy May Cooper.

The show follows the lives of Kerry and Lee 'Kurtan' Mucklowe, who live in Northleach, a small rural village in the Cotswolds, and has amassed a cult following since first airing in 2017.

Their dad, Paul Cooper, also stars on the show, playing Kerry’s father.

In 2018, both Charlie and Daisy May Cooper won the awards for best male and female performances in a comedy programme at the BAFTAs.

Charlie Cooper was up against the likes of Reece Shearsmith, Inside No.9, and the late Paul Ritter, nominated for Friday Night Dinner.

He has since joined forces with Channel 4 sitcom Stath Lets Flats, where he'll guest star as a lettings agent running a rival agency called 'Live Love Lets'.
