Louden family tragedy: Inquest date is confirmed

Following the tragedy, West Mercia Police confirmed they were treating the death of serving officer David Louden as a suspected suicide, and the death of his son Harrison as a suspected murder, following post-mortem examinations.

They were found dead at their home on Cairndhu Drive Kidderminster on August 13, 2021.

Worcestershire Coroner's Service has confirmed that inquests are set to take place into the deaths of David Jonathan Louden, aged 39, and Harrison Louden, aged three, on April 13 next year.

Worcestershire's Senior Coroner David Reid will hold the inquests at Stourport Coroner's Court.

Less than a week following the tragedy, Assistant Chief Constable Damian Barratt said: "At the time the deaths were treated as unexplained and an investigation was launched into the circumstances.

“We, West Mercia Police, are now treating the death of Harrison as a suspected murder and the death of David as a suspected suicide.

"Post mortems have now taken place and the investigation team, in conjunction with the Coroner, are satisfied that no other parties were involved.

“However, safeguarding reviews are now underway and there will be an inquest to provide an official determination, so we are unable to comment any further at this time in relation to the circumstances or the investigation.

“This is a dreadfully sad case and our thoughts are with David and Harrison’s family and friends."

David’s wife Samantha led a tribute to her husband and son, along with their wider family.

In a statement, she joined other family members in expressing their "deep shock, grief and devastation at the loss of two much loved family members."

They said: “David was a kind, loving, considerate, amazing father, husband, son, brother, uncle, friend and colleague.

"Harrison was a happy, well-loved little boy. They will both be forever missed and loved.”
