A POLICE car and a Land Rover crashed on Tolladine Road leaving the road closed off to traffic this evening (Tuesday).

Fortunately, nobody is believed to have been seriously hurt in the crash which happened at the junction with Sheriff Street after 5pm.

British Transport Police has tweeted to say that everyone was left feeling "a little shaken up" but there were no serious injuries.

It is believed that the police car was among several responding to an emergency 999 call.

Cars are being stopped by a policeman and diverted at Rose Avenue with drivers asked to stay away from the area if possible.

West Mercia Police said: "Tolladine Road in Worcester is currently closed in the direction of those leaving the City Centre while we manage a road traffic collision.

"Diversions are in place, but where possible please avoid the area and use alternate routes."

One eyewitness, who gave his name as Brandon, said: "There were a three or four police cars with a police van enroute.

"One police car, a 4x4, and a Land Rover crashed and the Land Rover skidded across the road and hit the traffic light.

"The traffic light is now completely bent over.

"Police surrounded the area and cordoned off the road now.

"All traffic is now diverted.

"Fire engines were coming also."

Police cars, ambulances and a fire engine were at the scene with the police car in the centre of the road and the Land Rover crashed against a wall and lamp post.

British Transport Police Three Counties tweeted: "All emergency services know the hazards of driving to jobs using blue lights and sirens.

"One of our Home Office colleagues involved in RTC, understandably all a little shaken up but most important of all no serious injury."

"@BTP3Counties assisting with road closures."

West Mercia Police, West Midlands Ambulance Service and Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service have been approached for a comment.
