A MAN was rescued from the waters of the river Severn by firefighters last night (Tuesday).

The man ended up in the river's waters after police were called to a concern for safety near Quay Street at 10.15pm.

Firefighters managed to get him safely back out of the water and to an awaiting ambulance as temperatures dropped overnight.

He was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for further treatment.

Fire crews from Worcester, Evesham and Pershore were sent to the riverbank.

 

A fire service spokesman said: "A man was rescued from the River Severn by fire service personnel and handed over to the police who were in attendance along with the ambulance service.

"The incident was marked as pending closure at 11.29pm."

An eyewitness said police were diverting people away from the riverside while they dealt with the incident.

A West Mercia Police spokeswoman said: "Police were called to Quay Street in Worcester at shortly after 10.15pm last night (30 November) following a report of a concern for safety.

"During the incident a man entered the river.

!He was rescued by the fire service and transported to hospital by ambulance."
