A SCHOOLBOY has had his dreams come true when he landed a top role in a famous ballet.

Albert Newton-Smith is currently the youngest child performing in The Nutracker at the Birmingham Hippodrome.

Albert, aged 9, was accepted into the Royal Ballet at Birmingham as a junior associate in September 2021.

The pupil from Northwick Manor Primary, Worcester, had only been at the school for two weeks when he was selected to perform in The Nutcracker.

He has been rehearsing for the past month and will be doing 14 performances between Friday, November 20 and Saturday, December 12.

Albert's Mother Hannah Newton-Smith said: "Me and my husband were over the moon and we're excited for the next few months of shows and rehearsals.

"We couldn't wait to tell friends and family, it's just amazing.

"Dancers from all over the world - Italy, Russia, Japan - are in the show and then there's my little boy from Worcester!

"He's been doing eight hours a week of ballet to perform in The Nutcracker."

She added: "Albert started doing gymnastics when he was about three.

"In 2019 he started at Harlequin Stage School.

"His teacher Paula Dymock encouraged us to send him to audition for the Royal Ballet.

"Two weeks after starting he was selected for the cast of The Nutcracker."
