Worcester Foodbank is asking for your support this Christmas.

With the effects of the pandemic still being felt by everyone across the city, the foodbank is appealing for donations this year to help those in need.

The organisation is also expecting a dramatic increase in the need for their services, due to the withdrawal of the £20 Universal Credit uplift and rising energy bills.

A Christmas food list has also been added to their website, which includes items such as stuffing mix, gravy granules and Christmas cake.

Worcester Foodbank manager, Grahame Lucas, said: “Last year we had record numbers for those in need of our services, and this year we are expecting a 25 per cent increase.

“At the moment we are just about holding our heads above the water due to the tireless work of our amazing volunteers who have ensured we can remain in a covid safe environment.

“As always, I thoroughly encourage everybody to donate and help someone in need this year and I would also like to give thanks to the incredible people who have donated this year.”

The organisation has also re-launched their Christmas gift card appeal, providing vouchers to parents and carers who cannot afford to buy presents across the city.

Last year more than 400 vouchers were provided to struggling families during the countdown to Christmas, at the valuation of £15 per child.

Donations are ideally being looked for in early December, so the festive food parcels are able to be packed and distributed.
