A SPECIAL Christmas wish has been granted for a woman with dementia which has caused a stir on a main road near Worcester.

A dream of taking a sleigh ride through the snow was shared by resident at The Lawns Nursing Home in Kempsey.

Staff quickly got to work with lifestyle and well being co-ordinator Joy Hoskins transforming a wheelchair into a sleigh fit for Mrs Claus.

Residents have now been taking turns to wrap up warm in a festive hat and blanket to be pushed along the A38 Main Road in Kempsey.

Appreciative drivers have been honking horns and people stopping to wave as they spot the specially decorated wheelchair go by.

Mrs Hoskins said: "One lady who has dementia asked for a sleigh ride in the snow but while we couldn't provide the snow I thought we could make a sleigh.

"I've loved pushing our residents up and down the A38 and they've enjoyed waving to as many people as they can and hearing the horns from cars and lorries.

"They have been having an absolute ball.

Worcester News:

"They've loved seeing people and getting some fresh air while they have been nice and warm in their blanket and hat."

For residents who are unable to leave the nursing home on Main Road, Kempsey, the staff have been pushing them in the corridors.

Mrs Hoskins said she had been trying to find a snow machine to make the resident's dream complete.

Mrs Hoskins added: "Its certainly given us a heart-filling happiness.

"It has all been part of the Christmas fun and show you're definitely never too old."
