A Worcestershire jazz club is celebrating after attracting its biggest ever crowd to its new venue.

Malvern Jazz, Blues and Swing club, in its new home at The Cube in Albert Road North, enjoyed its biggest night so far with Malvern Big Band and Midlands singer Garry Rutter.

Treasurer Neil Thwaites said: “It was great to enjoy a fine local big band, and a large appreciative audience made for a memorable evening all round.

“Following our first monthly session back in October, the club has gone from strength to strength with record crowds.

‘“We currently have confirmed bookings through to August 2022, featuring some of the finest bands and musicians the jazz world can offer.”

The club are now preparing for the visit of Janice Williamson accompanied by the Gary Bell band. Honing her craft in various bands, Janice went on to be a founding member of the acapella group ‘Black Voices’.

As a solo gospel and jazz artist she has performed in prestigious venues including Birmingham’s Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, Symphony Hall and Town Hall, at Upton Jazz Festival as well as in Germany, France, Holland, Belgium and the USA.

Janice is much in demand as she continues to perform as a part of jazz group The Outsiders and in the UK tour of Rush - A Joyous Jamaican Journey in UK theatres.

For this session on Sunday January 2, doors open at 7pm, the band will play from 8pm to 10.30pm (including interval) and admission is £10 cash on the door.

Jazz fans are encouraged to head over to the club’s website www.malvernjazz.co.uk for more information and further details of all upcoming events.
