Over the festive period, partywear for Christmas and New Year's Eve has been filling the shops.

However, more and more people have been turning to second hand choices for their festive outfits that are typically only worn once or twice.

Charity shopping is an alternative to fast fashion that has become incresingly popular as a cheaper option that helps charities and is environmentally friendly.

Statistics show that the fast fasion inustry produces 10% of global carbon dioxide emissions and use 1.5 trillion litres of water each year.

The rising popularity of charity shopping is helping to combat this, esecially over the Christmas period.

Bethany Andrews, 22, is from Pinvin and often frequents the charity shops in Worcestershire.

She said: "I'm a student and I would definitely say that a lot of students use charity shops.

"Me and my friends like to go charity shopping and I volunteered at a charity shop in Pershore over the summer.

"You can go in with £10 and come out with loads of cool stuff.

"I've bought a top today that I'll probably wear New Year's Eve when I go out.

"It's up to each individual but buying party wear from charity shops means that you might surprise yourself with what you find because it's all different.

"It's helping the charity and it's more sustaiable than fast fashion.

"You never know what you'll find, you might find a hidden gem!

"There are also a lot of expensive brands that are available way cheaper."

Sharon Goswami, Barnardo’s Head of Retail Operations said: “We’re delighted that so many people are interested in buying pre-loved partywear from our stores for celebrations such as Christmas and New Year.

"We know that it is a very popular line in all our UK shops and seems to sell out extremely quickly!”
