A WORCESTER butchers has gone into administration.

D&M Meats, based at Venture Business Park, has suddenly closed with a sign put up on its door saying: "Regrettably D&M Meats Ltd has now gone into administration."

A contact number for insolvency firm Sale Smith & Co was left with note, which we tried but had no response after our request for comment.

It is unclear how many staff now face redundancy.

One employee spoke out on social media, claiming staff only learned the firm was in administration after turning up for work on Thursday morning, (January 6) and discovered the note.

The former employee added they were "disappointed" at how staff had been treated.

A reporter visited the shop, at the business park in Weir Lane, but found it deserted and completely closed to the public.

The butcher's website, dandmmeats.co.uk, appears to have been completely taken down as it currently displays a message saying: "Maintenance Mode - This site is currently under going scheduled maintenance. Please check back soon."

The Facebook page also appears to have been taken down.

Sharon Bonas-Johnson posted a sad face emoji on the WR3 Residents' Info group at the news saying: "We used to always get their meat and especially for BBQs."

Chris Thorp said: "That's a shame."

Christine Jones said: "Oh no, I love their meats I went just before Christmas, gutted."

Allister Burd added: "I imagine the reduced hospitality orders hit hard."

The business made headlines in April 2018, when Michael Jacob, the owner of D&M Meats at the time, shot to local fame by giving away free meat on Facebook.

Mr Jacob was seen in the videos pacing up and down the store in the videos, speaking to the camera while holding various packets of meat.

"It's getting people to come back into butcher shops to buy the meat... rather than going to a chain and throwing it in the trolley like a tin of beans," he told us at the time.
