CUSTOMERS have spoken of their shock and disappointment at a city butchers entering administration.

As previously reported D&M Meats, based at Venture Business Park, in Lower Wick, Worcester, suddenly closed its doors to the public on Thursday, (January 6).

After we reported the news hundreds of readers took to social media, many saying they were surprised and "gutted".

Sue Lay said: "Such a shame, lovely staff and never had an issue with any of their meats or any other products."

Debbie Williams said she was sad for the staff who had lost their jobs adding: "We are very sad, been going there on and off since it opened. Last went just before Christmas."

Yvonne Harford Clarke said: "Such a shame had some great produce and bargains from there, great freezer selection too."

Steve Newman said: "Unfortunately another victim of a system where the little business can't compete with the prices of supermarkets. It's been happening for years and will continue to happen."

Marilyn Bishop added: "I used to use the van in town - good meat."

A sign is on display on the door of the shop, at the business park in Weir Lane, which says: "Regrettably D&M Meats Ltd has now gone into administration."

One employee spoke out on social media, claiming staff only learned the firm was in administration after turning up for work on Thursday and discovering the note.

The former employee added they were "disappointed" at how staff had been treated.

A contact number for insolvency firm Sale Smith & Co is on the note. The Worcester News called the number on Thursday and Friday but had no response for a request for comment.

It remains unclear how many staff now face redundancy.

The butcher's website, dandmmeats.co.uk, appears to have been completely taken down as it currently displays a message saying: "Maintenance Mode - This site is currently undergoing scheduled maintenance. Please check back soon."

The Facebook page also appears to have been taken down, but an Instagram page, @dandmmeats, appears still to be online - although it has not posted anything since November 9.
