A social housing association has received the green light to demolish a series of garages to make way for 'unallocated' parking facilities in two residential roads.

Platform Housing submitted an application to demolish the garages in Windermere Drive, Warndon, and Drake Avenue, Dines Green, in early December.

It said both sets of the largely disused garages were in 'poor' condition and 'uneconomical to repair', instead proposing they should be levelled and used as unallocated parking facilities for residents in both streets.

Details in the proposals for Drake Avenue revealed the plan is to demolish a long single-storey concrete-panel constructed garage building situated on a back-land site to the west side of the road.

The rear and one of the side walls of the building in question forms the site boundary with adjoining residences on Grenville Road and Gresham Road.

Similarly, in Windermere Drive, the proposal is to demolish two blocks of single-storey brick-built garage buildings situated on a back-land site toward the south side.

Again, the rear and some of the side walls of the buildings form the site boundaries with adjoining residences.

Plans show once the roof and walls of the buildings have been removed by contractors, the concrete slabs are to be retained and the site will instead be secured by a 1.8 metre high close-boarded timber fence.

Both applications were approved by Worcester City Council on January 6 and work is set to take place from January 10-21.

The full plans can be seen on the city council website by using the application numbers 21/01114/DEM (Drake Avenue) and 21/01115/DEM (Windermere Drive).
