IT IS always a special moment when the bride walks down the aisle on her wedding day.

But for Emily Mould it will be an even more tender moment as her grandfather, who has motor neurone disease, will do the honours.

John Adams, from Vines Lane, Droitwich, was honoured to be asked to give her away and will accompany her down the aisle in his wheelchair pushed by Miss Mould's father.

And when the vicar asks who gives this woman to be married to this man, Mr Adams will reply using his speaking machine.

Emily's mum Helen Millward said: "It's going to be very emotional we never expected him to be with us this long.

"Every day we have with him is a bonus.

"He never moans about anything and he has an amazing character."

Miss Mould, from Telford, and her partner Andy Lovell were engaged just before Christmas.

The couple, who have been together five years, are busy planning their wedding and should have the venue and date confirmed this week.

Mrs Millward said: "Emily is very close to my dad.

"Whenever she and Andy visited my dad he would type into his voice machine 'When are you going to marry my granddaughter?'

"After Andy proposed the first person Emily told was my dad and he was so pleased and very emotional.

"Since he was diagnosed with MND she has been extremely supportive to him.

"She was always going to visit him and help out.

"Before he had full-time care someone had to stay in his house and Emily used to stay over all the time."

Mr Adams has raised over £10,000 for Motor Neurone Disease Association with fundraisers including making Christmas tags and a tree of hope and love which was filled with messages.

The 77-year-old has delayed a recent challenge to complete 1,500 hand presses in 31 days because of injury.

He has gained a worldwide following receiving messages of support from around the world.
