TWO city men have been killed after a car crashed into a lamppost before bursting into flames.

Mohammed Luqman Ashraf, aged 28, and Mohammed Yasin, aged 24, died after their red Toyota Yaris crashed on Tuesday.

West Midlands Police were called to the crash on Hagley Road West in Bearwood, near Birmingham, shortly before 10pm.

A third man, also in his 20s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Paying tribute to the young men, Worcester City councillor Jabba Riaz said: "It is a tragic loss of two young lives.

"My thoughts go out to their friends and family.

"Everybody knows them. They were kind and caring men. They would go out of their way to help the community.

"They have been taken back to their lord."

Luqman, a former pupil of Bishop Perowne High School, worked at Hillside Pizza in Malvern for several years before his death.

A colleague at the takeaway said: "Luqman had worked for Hillside for many years and was known and loved by many of the customers in the Malvern district.

"He was hard-working, professional and always brought light to everyone around him.

"Our thoughts are with his family, his many friends and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

"Sleep well, my brother. It was an honour to work with you."

A Go Fund Me page has been set up in honour of the young men by friends Khateeb Shabir and Usman Multani.

Mr Multani said: "We lost two brothers and one remains in hospital after a tragic car crash. Mohammed Luqman Ashraf and Mohammed Yasin.

"When we lose someone so dear to us the only thing we can do that will benefit them is Dua and Sadqah Jariyah (worship and charity)."

Almost £3,000 has been donated in less than 24 hours since the fundraiser launched with all money going towards a water tank in Yemen.

Police are currently investigating the crash and are in touch with the men’s families.

Anyone with information is urged to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes of the serious collision investigation unit said: “We're in the early stages of establishing exactly what happened and we remain keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time.

“We'd ask anyone who was travelling along the dual carriageway and saw the red Toyota Yaris before the collision - or has information about the crash - to contact us.

“We would appreciate if drivers could check their dash cams as anything which was captured could assist our enquiries.

“This is a devastating time for the families of the victims and we’d urge people to come to us with any footage, rather than speculate and share potentially distressing material online.”

Anyone with information can call 101, incident 4263.
