An uninsured Peugeot driver who was using a mobile phone behind the wheel has been fined hundreds by magistrates. 

Jamie Thackeray was caught driving a Peugeot 308 without insurance and while using a mobile phone while travelling down Madresfield Road, a busy residential street in Malvern, on June 29 last year. 

Herefordshire Magistrates found Thackeray guilty of both offences during a hearing which the defendant was not required to attend on Friday, January 14. 

As such, the 36-year-old was fined £660 for using a mobile phone while driving. 

He'll also have to pay £66 to fund victim services and a further £90 in costs.

Thackeray is required to pay the total sum of £816 by February 11. 

The bench opted not to impose any seperate financial punishment for driving without insurance, however, they did endorse Thackeray's driving record with six penalty points.
