The M5 has been reopened this morning after an earlier crash saw the motorway closed throughout the night.

Officers first held traffic at around 7.40pm yesterday evening (January 17), blocking off all lanes between J7 (Worcester) and J8 (M50) southbound due to a police led incident.

Crews from West Midlands Ambulance Service and Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue both attended the scene.

Drivers who were caught between the incident and junction 7 were turned around and escorted back to the Worcester exit.

A diversion route was put in place for motorists throughout the evening and early hours of this morning.

However, National Highways for West Midlands confirmed the road had been reopened shortly before 5am this morning.

It is not yet clear whether anyone was injured during the incident.
