The winners of Worcester Cathedral’s annual photography competition have been announced.

Judges praised the “extremely high standard” of entries, which were on the theme of ‘Aspects of the Cathedral’.

Robin Shuard won the Over 18s competition for the photograph ‘For now we see only a reflection’. Judges described the work as “a sharp and well-framed capture, something a bit different from the norm”.

Second prize went to Cathryn Dhonau’s work ‘Where there are shadows’, which the judges said is a “well focussed, well framed capture with stunning depth and shadow”.

Philip Lee scooped third prize in the Over 18s category with ‘Through the Fog’. The judges said: “We loved how abstract and atmospheric this one was - reflective of a foggy January.”

‘Golden Rays’ by Theo Shuard was the winner of the Under 18s age group. Judges commented on the picture’s “impressive use of the reflections of light from the stained glass onto the stonework.

Second place went to Erin Goldsworthy for ‘Between the branches', with the judges saying: “We love the contrast between the cathedral tower and the branches, a sharp and focused capture.”

In third place was Isaac Shellam with ‘Bright Reflections’. The judges said it is “a fabulous juxtaposition of the old and new, featuring the reflection of the cathedral in the Millenium window”.

All six will be displayed in the Aspects of Worcester Cathedral Photography Exhibition, which takes place next month, along with a selection of ‘highly commended’ photos and judges’ favourites.

The exhibition will run from February 2-16 at the cathedral and will be open between 10am and 5pm (1pm to 3pm on Sundays). Admission is free and donations are appreciated.
