THE Bishop of Worcester has spoken out on the Prime Minister's response to questions about a rule-breaking party allegedly held at Downing Street in May 2020.

Boris Johnson apologised to parliament last week saying he believed a gathering in No 10’s garden during the first lockdown was a “work event”.

Then earlier this week Sky News reporter Beth Rigby grilled the PM and in one response he said: "Nobody told me that what we were doing was as you say against the rules, that the event in question was something that we were going to do something that wasn't a work event."

Sharing a link to the story The Right Reverend Dr John Inge tweeted: "I, along with millions of others who were obeying the rules he set, could have told him."

It's not the first time the Bishop has taken the unusual step of wading into the political debate.

After the row over Dominic Cummings, then Prime Minister's chief adviser, taking a trip during lockdown, Bishop John tweeted: "The PM tells us that Cummings ‘followed the instincts of every father’ and that he ‘does not mark him down for that’.

"The point is that thousands and thousands of parents, including me, have not been able to follow their instincts because they felt they had to obey the rules.

"The PM’s risible defence of Cummings is an insult to all those who have made such sacrifices to ensure the safety of others."
