A WELL loved quirky floating cafe is back serving its much-loved bacon sandwich after a refurbishment.

Cafe Afloat in Diglis is back serving customers after the canal boat went to a dry-dock for a revamp.

Customers had missed the floating cafe but were happy to see it back again and looking better than ever after its makeover.

Owner Dave Price took over Cafe Afloat two years ago after retiring from running a car repair garage in Rowley Regis.

He said: "The canal boat was in need of some TLC.

"I knew right from the beginning it needed doing because it hadn't been out of the water for five or six years.

"We began budgeting and saving for it from the beginning.

"Customers are loving it.

"So many people think it is a different boat.

"They're really happy to have us back again.

Worcester News:

"I think we are popular because it is a quirky place and the location is great.

"When the weather's nice we are just packed with people.

Mr Price bought the business after seeing it up for sale while dropping a friend off at Diglis.

Worcester News:

Re-opening in the first lockdown, the cafe was a hit with people taking their daily walks.

On a busy day, they will sell around 280 coffees and it is a meeting place for cycling, dog walking and book clubs.

It is also famous for its bacon sandwiches using produce from two local producers - bacon from The Butcheress, based in Stoke Prior, and bread from Ma Bakers in Cranham Drive.

Worcester News:

Last year, Mr Price extended the kitchen throughout the whole canal boat.

Customers can no longer sit on the boat but there are chairs and gazebos back on dry land.

Mr Price also has exciting future plans for Cafe Afloat too.

Worcester News:

"I'm thinking about making a roof terrace on top of the boat with two or three tables.

"I have to look into it with regards to health and safety - that's something I would be looking to do next year."

Regulars will be pleased to read that while there have been changes to the boat, the menu will stay the same but with specials added to the chalkboard.
