THE director of a Worcester butchers that closed suddenly owing more than £1.5 million is listed as a director of two other firms in the West Midlands, we can reveal.

Michael Jacob is listed as a director of D&M Meats Ltd, which put up a sign on the door of the business premises, in Venture Business Park, earlier this month saying: "Regrettably D&M Meats Ltd has now gone into administration."

As previously revealed by this paper a creditor's list revealing the extent of the company's troubles, correct up to January 12, shows the butchers owed £1,628,190.17 to a total of 60 firms.

Now it has emerged Mr Jacob is also listed as a director of R&J Meats, since being appointed on July 8 last year.

The 46-year-old is also listed as an active director of Butcha Ltd after being appointed to that firm in July 8, Companies House details show.

Both firms share the same address in Tettenhall Road, Wolverhampton.

After R&J recently updated its Facebook page, people left comments including: "Glad I have found you, look forward to your online service being available again - been a loyal D&M customer for years."

A video shared on R&J's Facebook also shows meat being sold from a D&M Meat van last month.

A button to start an order takes the user to the D&Meats website, which is currently showing as undergoing scheduled maintenance.

An internet search for Butcha Ltd brought no results.

We attempted to speak to Mr Jacob at a Bransford Road address listed for him, but no one was at home on Tuesday.

We also asked R&J for comment on its Facebook page, but no one responded.

Meanwhile, D&M Meats is still registered as active on Companies House - the government's registrar of businesses.

A spokesman for Companies House said: "A company’s status is updated when the appointed insolvency practitioner has filed the relevant information with us."

We have made numerous attempts to contact insolvency firm Sale Smith & Co - a number for which was left with the note on the door of D&M - but have had no response.

The creditors list seen by the Worcester News shows firms in the UK and internationally owed large amounts including £104,968 owed to South Pacific Meats Ltd in Teddington, Tulling Meat Import in Rotterdam in the Netherlands which is owed £95,000, and Hewitt Meats of Loughgall, Northern Ireland, owed £93,687.

HenHouse Wholesale Ltd is listed as one of the creditors owed £97,828. A spokesman for the Preston-based firm told us: "I've seen (D&M Meats) owes something like £1.7 million, I just want to know what happened to the firm to owe that amount.

"I feel frustrated to be honest, I can't get over that. Creditors won't get anything I suspect."
