Residents of an aptly named road are organising a party to celebrate Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee.

The Jubilee Road is looking to throw an all-out bash to celebrate the event later this June.

Neighbours have been buying decorations and organising activities ahead of the day.

Jackie Peppiatt, a resident in Jubilee Road, has been helping neighbours plan the event.

She said:" We want to have a fitting celebration with our local community to help celebrate the day properly.

"You cannot live on Jubilee Road and not celebrate the Platinum Jubilee, it's too much of a wasted opportunity.

Neighbours have bought bunting, decorations and even a life-sized cardboard cutout of Queen Elizabeth for the event.

She said: "We are planning ahead as we think shops will be sold out nearer the time.

"We are hoping to have party food, with tables throughout the centre of the street which we are currently trying to source.

"We will also be serving some signature cocktails called platinum punch and jubilee gin."

"Our decorations are due to go up on Thursday, June 9 and will remain in place for the remainder of the weekend."

Jackie said that the road has grown much closer due to the pandemic.

She said: " We are a cul-de-sac of around 24 houses, full of lovely neighbours who all supported each other during the restrictions.

"Everyone used to offer to walk dogs or pick up prescriptions when needed, and we used to all meet at the foot of our front garden's to keep everyone's spirits up.

"During these events, we would hold raffles, where all the money raised went to the NHS, and this community feel was what we wanted to recapture with our Jubilee party."

St John's will also become home to another commemorative event later this year.

Christopher Whitehead School in St John's has been awarded National Lottery Community funding to host a Platinum Jubilee Community Festival.

The event is set to take place on Saturday, June 11, between noon and 8 pm.

To celebrate the anniversary, a four day UK bank holiday weekend from Thursday 2 June to Sunday 5 June will take place.
