AGE UK's Broad Street store is closing down after today amid the arrival of a new gambling shop.

The former Brighthouse building will be occupied by Shipley Amusement Centre, which is currently located in the former Scala Theatre in Worcester city centre.

Age UK temporarily moved into the premises whilst the building remained empty.

The announcement was made this morning on Twitter, via the official Age UK Worcester and Malvern Hills account.

The sign has been removed and the store is selling the remaining stock left over before the closure.

It is not currently known if the store is due to be relocated.

The tweet said: "Today, our Broad Street furniture shop will close its doors for the final time. Pop along to the store in Worcester's City Centre to grab yourself a bargain, while stocks last, and support our crucial cause.

"We will be relocating our furniture store in due course, but at this time, we have no further details about when or where this will happen. Please do keep an eye out on our social pages & website for more information on the new store.

"We will continue to provide our free donation collection service. However, for the foreseeable future, we may not be able to fulfil requests on large pieces of furniture."

The regeneration work, which is being carried in part by the almost £18 million awarded to the city from the government’s Future High Streets Fund, will see the grade II-listed Scala Theatre and Corn Exchange buildings in Angel Street transformed into a new performing arts venue.

The neighbouring eyesore former Co-op supermarket would also be transformed into shops, restaurants and offices.
