A COMPANY helping a young cancer hero go on his dream holiday is holding a fundraising ball to support even more good causes.
SJL Insurance stepped in when the family of eight-year-old Oscar Saxelby-Lee were struggling to find travel insurance so he could visit his friends in Australia.
Many insurance firms had been unable to help Oscar because of his cancer history, but SJL Insurance managed to find a specialist policy that would allow the youngster to travel.
Not only that, the company decided to pay Oscar’s insurance fee through the SJL Foundation.
Simon Lancaster, the founder and CEO of SJL Insurance, said multiple people had brought to SJL’s attention the family’s struggle to find travel insurance - and that they were happy to help.
“The foundation is our charitable foundation that supports charitable projects that matter to our employees, clients and suppliers,” he added.
“Our first charity partner is Acorns Children’s Hospice, our second is awarded as grants to new start-up businesses across the UK, with the balance available for situations such as this.”
The foundation’s charitable ball takes place at The Bank House Hotel in Worcester on Friday April 1, starting at 7pm.
The event will become an annual affair but because of the pandemic this will be the first since the inaugural ball in 2019, which raised £37,000.
Event costs are covered by SJL Insurance and Mr Lancaster, so 100% of the ticket price, sponsorship money and donations go to the SJL Foundation, and on to its charity partners including Acorns.
There are 250 confirmed guests for this year’s event but there are still tickets for groups and individuals available. These can be bought at https://www.tickettailor.com/events/thesjlfoundation/570249
Entertainment will come from Patrick the Magician and Midlands covers band The Institutions. The event is sponsored by SJL Insurance Services, Dolphin Tec, Skipton Building Society, Lonmar Global Risks and Canopius Group.
A raffle and auction will take place on the night, with prizes donated by local businesses. In 2019, prizes included a round of golf with Worcestershire Rapids cricketers, luxury holidays and signed sporting memorabilia.
