A PLAN to open a new glamping site in place of a village farm shop destroyed by fire has been put forward.

As many as ten new glamping pods would be built at Knott Field Nurseries off Holt Fleet Road in Ombersley, near Worcester, under plans by Alan Wilkinson.

A temporary farm shop to replace the nursery, garden centre and farm shop lost to fire was built last year.

The fire, which broke out in May 2020 and took 55 firefighters in nine fire engines to bring under control, completely destroyed the business.

A statement included with the application said: “The proposal for the creation of a small cluster of 10 holiday glamping units and associated site office and accommodation, have been carefully located to reside in the vicinity of the footprint previously covered by the horticultural nursery, garden centre, farm shop buildings and associated hardstanding.

“The replacement farm shop and garden buildings business are retained on the site. The existing access would be used and shared between these various uses.

“The application site is visually unobtrusive and well screened by existing planting and hedgerows and benefits from substantial existing strategic planting.

“The application site benefits from an existing established bank of trees and hedgerow to the boundary with Holt Fleet Road as demonstrated in the image overleaf.

“It should be noted that the proposed scheme is fully located behind this established and significant existing landscape buffer.

“The proposal does not require the removal of any trees or hedges. Substantial planting is incorporated into the scheme.”

The proposal can be viewed via the planning section of Wychavon District Council’s website.

The application number is W/22/00383/FUL.

Public consultation ends on April 12.
